Warzone Verdansk ’84 revealed: Summit, Standoff, updated locations & season, more

Introducing Verdansk 84, the new & refreshed battle royale map for Warzone, featuring a ton updates across every landing spot.

Published

on

Call of Duty: Warzone Verdansk ’84 map has arrived! After a year of the same Verdansk locale, Raven Software has debuted a brand new, overhauled version of the iconic battle royale map.

Verdansk ’84 features a total of seven new POIs across the map, with five current locations receiving big updates to create a fresh, new experience.

Every building, locale, and more have also been retouched and updated, with improved lighting for a better player experience across the entire map.

The map now takes place during springtime in 1984, a big change from the original Verdansk map that was set in winter. Springtime has brought new lighting aesthetics, new greenery across the map, and more full, finished areas.

Worlds finally collide in Season 3, as Black Ops Cold War’s story and theme is front and center in Verdansk ’84. The map features fan favorite Black Ops locales, including Summit and Standoff. Updates to favorite drop locations are also included in the experience.

It’s spring of 1984, and Verdansk has never looked so vibrant. But underneath the surface, the chill of the Cold War looms, as Perseus’ masterplan is revealed. Get your squad together and explore Verdansk as it was in the spring of 1984 — hold down seven new points of interest and discover secrets in a lush new landscape. Welcome to Verdansk ‘84.

Take a look at the breakdown of Verdansk ’84 as you drop into the new experience in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Warzone Verdansk ’84 Map

Here’s a look at the new locales & updated places in Call of Duty: Warzone’s Verdansk 84.

New Locations

Gora Summit

The Gora Summit location now officially replaces Dam.

Gora Summit, as you could’ve guessed from the name, is the iconic Summit map from the Black Ops universe brought to life in Warzone. The location no longer has a massive barrier between it’s high ground and the low ground below.

At the Gora Summit, there’s a working cable car system that allows you to go from the top of the Summit to the end of it. The cars also let you move between certain buildings of the Summit allowing for quicker transportation around the area.

Players will also be able to use vehicles to get from the lower areas up to Gora Summit quickly, which is a welcome change after being blocked off by the Dam wall in the original map.

Airplane Factory

A new location Raven added to Verdansk ’84 is the Airplane Factory (or ‘Factory’ on the mini map). This POI is located in almost the center of the map.

For players who love the hot drop of Superstore, Factory is located directly next to the Superstore with quick in and out access. The Factory features an airplane in the center.

Raven believes this location will help fill out areas of the map that felt under utilized in the original Verdansk. Airplane Factory becomes a great place for transitioning between Superstore to other parts of the map as you progress on, even with close access to the main Airport.

The location is almost always in the circle, has a good variety of loot, and will consistently have some action going on to get better loot and upgrade.

This brand-new area features four large warehouses – one big enough to store most of a plane fuselage inside, including cockpit, fuselage, and engine sections – and an underground passage to a secondary warehouse with more plane parts to spot. Attached to the biggest warehouse is a pair of chimneys (which you can ascend to gantry platforms). Outside is a large hangar, numerous outbuildings, a parked plane, and a fuel tower and pipeworks, all of which are climbable.

Grid Array

Grid Array is a new area that replaces the previous Array location in the Warzone Verdansk map.

This new Grid Array has a massive grid based tower that players can access certain points of to get high vantage points across Verdansk 84 map.

Players can climb up the ladders to get to the top of the Grid Array, allowing for high sniper vantage points with a major risk. Players will be easy to be spotted at the top, especially with sniper glint. The surroundings of Array are updated with new buildings to access.

Verdansk Stadium

The stadium in Verdansk has gone through more iterations than really any other original part of the Verdansk map.

It started off enclosed, with no inside access. Players were only available to get to the top of the Stadium via helicopters. Raven then updated the stadium with Season 5 of Warzone x Modern Warfare to blow it wide open, allowing players to enter from multiple angles and use grapple hooks to get to the top of it.

Now, with Verdansk 84, Stadium sees another change. The stadium features a classic, 1980s feel. Raven describes it as the “old school” feel of stadiums from that area.

Raven also made note of that fact that there’s no longer a roof top of this stadium, meaning players can’t camp at the top waiting for end circles to move.

The new Stadium also no longer features an underground portion.

Updated Locations

Airport

The Airport of Verdansk is getting a makeover in Verdansk 84.

In the previous map, the Airport was destroyed with no proper access or areas on the second level. Now, the airport is fully reconstructed with full access to all of the floors.

The second floor in particular is more useful now thanks to new cover areas, better loot, and advantages over the Airport Tower. The Airport Tower does not have a clear line of sight into the Airport itself anymore, allowing for more tactical plays to occur.

The outer areas of the Airport are also changed to no longer have smoke or fire raging from them. The locales are put back together and clearer entry and exit points are now marked.

Farmhouse

The Farmhouse in Warzone’s Verdansk has been updated to become the classic Black Ops 2 map Standoff in Verdansk ‘84.

Standoff replaces the Farmhouse area, but Raven assures that some of the outer Farm buildings are still available for players to traverse as they move between locations on this side of the map.

Fans who love Black Ops 2’s Standoff will be in for a treat at this location. Farmhouse has a clean, classic Standoff feel that is easy to traverse and offers more versatile gameplay than before.

Superstore

Verdansk 84 brings some new and fun changes to the Superstore. Superstore remains one of the most popular landing spots on the map, and has high action with some of the best loot you can get.

With the new map, Raven has updated it to be a more finished up location. The original version had a lot of destruction, broken boxes, and areas on fire. Now, it’s all cleaned up and an actual store.

Players will have to use different routes to get across the store as more areas are now filled in in the center areas of the store itself.

Downtown

While the majority of Downtown will remain the same, Raven has made some changes to it in Verdansk ‘84 to allow for a better player experience overall.

Downtown in Verdansk 84 has less density of buildings to not feel as packed up as it currently does. Raven does want to ensure the area feels like a downtown, but also wanted to lighten it up a bit to change some buildings to be under construction.

Raven notes that these changes allow for less players to camp in certain areas of downtown, and rather, have to engage in fights as they move across the updated POI.

One of the biggest changes Downtown is the towering Broadcast building.

The interior is now more accessible, with an interior stairwell running to the top of three unfinished floors where views and long-range takedowns are spectacular.

Karst Salt Mines

Karst Salt Mines updates and expands upon the Quarry area of Verdansk in new ways.

There were many buildings around the River Quarry that were not previously accessible, and also caused many players to just ignore the location overall.

Now, this updated POI has newly accessible buildings and updated layout for more access. Salt Mines also have changed the overall height of different places to allow for better vehicle access.

Old Mine

The Old Mine is another way Raven is filling up the Warzone map with better areas to search for versus having open forest.

This Old Mine is located in the north west section of the map, close to Gora Summit (which used to be a Dam). Previously, there was nothing in this area. Now, the area has been updated with new buildings and accessible alley points to get loot as you traverse between Summit and the north west of Verdansk 84.

Updates to Apartments

Over at the Barakett Promenade, one of the five-floor apartment complexes hasn’t quite been finished, turning this tenement block into a maze of half-constructed rooms and hallways.

This changes up this side of the map dramatically from rows of the apartment complexes to a more asymmetrical situation where there are both pros and cons to taking a position up on the finished or unfinished apartments.

Updates to Hills

Verdansk has plenty of “retro-fitted” areas to show what life was like back in 1984, and a prime example of this is the Novi Grazna Hills.

In modern day, parts of the Novi Grazna Hills were leveled to make way for a new housing development. But what was there before the bulldozers moved in?

Come to this side of the map, and you’ll find a lush, wooded plateau with a farm smallholding. Specifically, there is a tiny windmill, a barn, and a cottage, which offer new combat opportunities within the immediate area.

Changes to Promenade

Sometimes, less is more – and the Barakett Promenade is a good example of some building removals to improve the flow of the game in terms of movement and combat.

The library North of the Ferris Wheel has yet to be constructed, and in its place for now is a charming recreation area.

Also, the Market adjacent to the School further west along the Promenade is now a parking lot, and the entirety of the West Promenade between the parallel roads is now a long section of park with trees, tables, fountains and bridges. Don’t stop to admire this scenery… you have a war to win!

Additional Interior & Exteriors for Common Locations

An open-door policy exists inside every Police Station across Verdansk as additional upstairs offices are accessible (with windows to shoot through), meaning more escape or entrance options are available, and sightlines across previously familiar areas (like Airport Maintenance, for example).

Similarly, each of the Fire Stations has a new exterior (adjacent to the tower) enabling lower roof access, and for those with the necessary dexterity, access to the main upstairs interior via a spot of parkour.

Also look for additional subtle changes throughout the map, such as newly accessible windows on stairwells throughout the Downtown buildings and certain tenement blocks, like the freshly-cladded one at Lozoff Pass.

That’s a look at the new locations & updated locations in Verdansk 84 in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Warzone Iron Trials ’84 mode: Return date, new ruleset, rewards

The fan-favorite Iron Trials ’84 mode is very popular in Warzone, so here’s all of the latest information you need to know about Warzone Iron Trials ’84.

Published

on

Warzone fans loved the Iron Trials ’84 mode, where players could earn bragging rights by winning “the toughest Battle Royale mode to ever come to Verdansk.” It has now been removed, so here’s when we expect it to return.

Warzone Season 6 has arrived, and many will look back on Season 5 Reloaded fondly thanks to the fan-favorite Iron Trials ’84 mode.

This was a more hardcore Verdansk experience where players could earn an exclusive Calling Card. In Iron Trials, you had to “flex your mastery over the entire arsenal of weapons” and “prove you can handle any firefight with any type of armament.”

Here’s everything you need to know about Warzone’s Iron Trials ’84 mode, including when it will officially return.

Warzone Iron Trials return date

Raven Software removed Iron Trials 84 from Warzone on September 30.

Following players calling for the mode to return, Raven Software has announced plans for the mode to return during three separate weekends in October.

In a graphic posted as part of Warzone’s Season 6 patch notes, the studio confirmed that the mode will return on weekends exclusively with versions of the mode in Quad, Trios, and Solos.

Weekend exclusive playlist updates are available from Friday at 10am PT to Monday at 10am PT.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Iron Trials ’84 Quads: Friday, October 8 at 10am PT – Monday, October 11 at 10am PT
  • Iron Trials ’84 Trios: Friday, October 15 at 10am PT – Monday, October 18 at 10am PT
  • Iron Trials ’84 Solos: Friday, October 29 at 10am PT – Monday, November 1 at 10am PT

Warzone Iron Trials ’84 rules

In many ways, Iron Trials is a more competitive version of Warzone. The Gulag is more skill-reliant, loadout drops are rarer and more difficult to acquire, and the time-to-kill (TTK) has been raised across the board.

Thanks to the Call of Duty Blog and the Season 5 Reloaded patch notes, here’s every new in Warzone’s Iron Trials ’84:

Iron Trials ’84 Quads & Trios

The October 8 update for Warzone introduced the Quads version of Iron Trials ’84, and it has some major differences compared to the Duos version with the Warzone October 15 update introducing the Trios version that has the same rules as Quads.

You can find all of the exclusive rules for the Quads & Trios version of the game mode below:

  • Buy Station
    • Specialist Token has been removed.
  • Equipment
    • Medical Syringe now heals 25% faster.
  • Gulag
    • Loadouts have been updated.
    • Loadout primary Weapon Attachments increased from 2 to 3.
  • Loot
    • Specialist Token now drops on death.
    • Classified Weapons have been updated.
    • Foresight has been added as an exceedingly rare drop.
  • Player
    • Base health regen speed has been increased.
  • Vehicles
    • Tac Rovers have been enabled.
  • Weapons
    • Sniper Rifle headshot down distance increased to 50 meters.
    • Sniper Rifle headshot damage beyond 50 meters has been increased from 300 to 325.

Operator and time-to-kill changes

  • Base Health: Compared to a normal match, all players base health is increased from 100 to 250.
  • Health Regeneration: The regen delay timer has been increased from 5 to 7 seconds and regen per second has been decreased from 120 per second to 40. It may be wise for players to reconsider preferred Perks and Equipment.
  • Starting Equipment: Players drop in with a .44 Magnum and a Sledgehammer.

Devs have previously made it their mission to increase Warzone’s TTK, saying that it increases “the overall capacity for skill expression” and enables “more escapes from impossible situations, moments of finesse, epic outplays, and opportunities to flex exquisite marksmanship.”

They said that Iron Trials 84’s health change is “set to affect the feel of combat, time-to-kill, weapon, Perk, and Equipment viability as the entire game is effectively altered!”

No free Loadout Drops

Even if you Gulag’d early and are scrambling to find cash and more weapons, you can always be safe in the knowledge that a free Loadout Drop will arrive at the start of the second and fifth circles.

But not in Iron Trials ’84, where Complimentary Loadout Drops have been disabled. Staying alive and finding cash has never been more important, especially when “the cost at a Buy Station has risen, too.”

Players will have to collect and spend $15,000 instead of the standard $10,000 to purchase a loadout drop in this game mode.

Tougher Gulag

In Iron Trials ’84, devs have revealed that the Gulag is still open, but will emphasize one-on-one skill. They also said that “the only thing standing between you and redeployment is the agility of your trigger finger.”

Players have previously called for dual weapons and Tactical Equipment to be removed from the Gulag, and Raven is delivering in the Iron Trials ’84 Gulag.

  • No akimbo
  • No semi-auto or fully-auto Shotguns
  • Almost no Tactical Equipment
  • Light Machine Guns (except the RPD (BOCW)) and all Tactical Rifles have been removed from Gulag Loadouts

Also, if you win your one-on-one, you’ll now redeploy with whatever weapons and equipment you had in the Gulag.

No Stopping Power or Dead Silence

Players have long complained about the luck-based advantage that the powerful Field Upgrades Stopping Power and Dead Silence brings.

Raven Software has previously reduced Stopping Power spawn rates and allowed High Alert to counter Dead Silence, but Iron Trials removes both.

Sniper Rifle, Stun Grenade, and Medical Syringe nerfs

Sniper Rifles are some of Warzone’s most powerful tools, allowing you to take out targets at extremely long range without getting your hands dirty. However, Iron Trials ’84 has made it so Sniper Rifles “Can only one-shot to the head within 30 meters.”

This will likely promote more aggressive playstyles for snipers, where they must close the gap to land that ever-important one-shot kill.

In addition, Stun Grenades and Medical Syringes will also see their effectiveness decreased by a whopping 50%, making them not nearly as strong as they are in regular game modes.

Fewer vehicles

A common strategy for surviving Verdansk is to move around in the safety of Big Bertha Trucks, SUVs, and Helicopters. You won’t be able to do this in Iron Trials, though, as the only vehicles on the map will be ATVs and Dirt Bikes.

You won’t be able to run over your opponents with such ease, and you won’t be able to use the vehicles for cover. Raven recommends you “Plan your drops carefully and rotate early.”

Loot changes

You can find all of the game-changing loot changes that are in effect in the Warzone Iron Trials ’84 game mode below:

  • Basic Attachments: Common weapons will start with an attachment – most to provide their max magazine size.
  • Rarity Spawn Rates: Epic and Legendary weapons are now harder to find. Players will have to open a few more boxes than usual to find what they’re looking for.
  • New Rarity – Classified: These Black Ops Cold War weapons will spawn with a few more attachments than usual – more than the standard five. That said, good luck finding one.
  • Killstreaks: Drop rates have been reduced. Time to stop spamming UAVs and to start putting those senses to the test.
  • Cash Spawns: Larger piles of cash are rarer. Players will have to stay on top of scavenging for cash if they plan to afford a Loadout.
  • Field Upgrades: No Dead Silence. No Stopping Power Rounds. Period.

Buy Station price changes

  • Armor Bundle: $1,500 to $2,000
  • Gas Mask: $3,000 to $4,000
  • Cluster Strike: $3,000 to $4,000
  • Precision Strike: $3,500 to $4,500
  • Self Revive: $4,000 to $5,000
  • UAV: $4,000 to $6,000
  • Loadout Drop Marker: $10,000 to $15,000

The Buy Station not only has adjusted prices, but it also gives players the chance to buy the Specialist Perk bonus too. It will set players back a whopping $50,000, so you will do well to acquire one in a game.

  • Supply Run discounts are now 50% on every item except Team Redeploy (100%), Loadout Drop Marker (10%), and Specialist Token (10%)
  • The Hardline Perk now gives a 25% discount to every item except Self Revive (20%), Loadout Drop Marker (10%), and Specialist Token (20%)

Contracts price changes

  • Recon: $1,100
  • Scavenger: $1,600
  • Bounty: $2,500
  • Supply Run: $1,200

Warzone Iron Trials ’84 reward

For winning a game of Iron Trials ’84, players could get their hands on an exclusive Calling Card.

Devs said that “there’s no participation trophy for this mode,” and only those who win Iron Trials will receive the Calling Card.

Will Iron Trials come to Warzone Custom Lobbies?

Iron Trials had been incredibly popular, with many players calling for it to be a permanent ranked mode. There’s no confirmation that a ranked mode will ever arrive in Warzone, but the competitive scene should be receiving the new rules in the future.

Along with the confirmation that Iron Trials would be removed on September 30, Raven Software told YouTuber JGOD that “As for customs… it’s not coming tomorrow is all we can say for now.”

So, it sounds very likely that Iron Trials rules will make their way to Custom Lobbies and competitive Warzone, but there’s no confirmation on when. However, we’ll let you know as soon as it’s confirmed.

That’s everything we know about Warzone Season 6 Iron Trials ’84 mode!

Weekend-Exclusive Playlist – Iron Trials ‘84 Trios

Last weekend, we let you pick your 3 best squad mates. This weekend, you only choose 2. Time to decide who made the cut!

This Weekend-Exclusive Playlist went live earlier today at 10 AM PST and will remain live through Monday, October 11th, at 10 AM PST.

Adjustments:

The same changes that were implemented for Quads last week will be applied to the Trios version of Iron Trials ‘84.

Below is a recap:

Accessibility

  • Tactical Sprint
    • Tactical Sprint allows players to eliminate the need for a double tap on analog sticks. This option is intended to support Fine Motor Accessibility. This menu option is located within the Controller tab of the Options and Accessibility Options menu.
    • The setting has 3 options:
      • Double Tap: Double tap to Tactical Sprint (default)
      • Single Tap from Sprint: Single tap to Tactical Sprint while sprinting
      • Single Tap from Run: Single tap to Tactical Sprint while running

We want players to be able to use Tactical Sprint strategically without the need to choose between Auto Tac Sprint and the physical pain associated with repeated quick presses of the left / right analog sticks. The option to Single Tap from Run gives players the ability to use a single button press to go from basic speed to Tactical Sprint. The Single Tap from Sprint option allows players to opt to use a single button press to go from Run to Sprint, and then another single button press to go from Sprint to Tactical Sprint. Each of the available choices allow players to customize their button functionality and balance that against individual gameplay style and noise associated with player movement.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue causing Custom Weapon Modifications to lock Players out of the Armory.
  • Fixed an issue causing incorrect text to appear for the Unlock Criteria text on locked Attachments.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players returning from the Gulag to be incorrectly kicked from a live match for “being AFK”.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to get kicked out of the Look For Party menu when selecting the Start Looking For Party button.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to occasionally experience a client crash while modifying Loadouts during a live match.

Best PPSH-41 loadout for CoD: Warzone Season 6

The PPSH-41 is still a great SMG choice in Season 6 of Warzone, so here is how to make the best loadout for this Black Ops Cold War weapon.

Published

on

The notoriously fast-firing PPSH-41 SMG can cause significant damage in Warzone Season 6, so make sure you’re not missing out with our best loadout, complete with attachments and Perks.

Multiple Call of Duty games have featured the PPSH-41 SMG, and it’s been mega-popular and used frequently. Its blistering speed can sometimes be hard to control, but given that Warzone has a near-endless stream of attachments, the PPSH can become a beast.

The Black Ops Cold War SMG can destroy large groups of enemies in close quarters without you having to break much of a sweat if you use the right attachments and Perks to maximize its potential.

With this in mind, here is how to make the best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout for Season 6 of the Call of Duty battle royale.

Best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout

Best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout attachments

  • Muzzle: GRU Suppressor
  • Barrel: 15.7″ Task Force
  • Stock: Raider Stock
  • Ammunition: 55 Rnd Drum
  • Rear Grip: Serpent Wrap

To get the best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout rolling, we’re immediately applying the popular GRU Suppressor as we want our SMG to be as quiet as a mouse but still own at any range. The 15.7″ Task Force barrel is a must for most SMGs as, again, it increases damage over longer distances.

The Raider Stock is excellent for increasing your overall mobility and speed, and the 55 Rnd Drum gives us a little extra to finish off two or three players.

We finish the attachments off with the Serpent Wrap as its increased ADS, with minor drawbacks, is a big plus to munch enemies at close range.

Best Perks to run with Warzone PPSH-41 class

  • Perk 1: E.O.D
  • Perk 2: Overkill
  • Perk 3: Combat Scout

Given that you’re going to want to get in close with PPSH regularly in Warzone, E.O.D will allow you to shrug off Thermite, Claymores, and other explosive distractions.

Even with attachments, the best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout still lacks the full range that an Assault Rifle can offer, so Overkill lets us play with a longer-range gun such as the HDR.

Lastly, we recommend equipping Combat Scout, highlighting any enemies you damage for your whole squad to see. You’ll be able to hunt them down with greater ease.

Most recent PPSH buffs and nerfs

Raven Software applied some buffs to the Black Ops Cold War SMG back in the Warzone Season 5 Reloaded update that went live on October 7, 2021.

This update also brought a whole host of other weapon balancing changes that you can find here.

You can find the latest PPSH buff details below:

  • Weapon Kick adjusted
  • ADS Sway adjusted

While firing the PPSh-41 (BOCW), the Weapon could kick in a manner that would make it difficult to gauge bullet directionality. This is a subtle change that will have a significant impact on the ability to line up shots reliably.

How to unlock the PPSH

Players could unlock this Black Ops Cold War SMG by reaching Level 15 on the Season 3 Battle Pass.

However, with that Battle Pass no longer available for players to level up with the arrival of Season 6, players now have two different challenges they can complete to unlock this weapon.

You can find these unlock challenges below:

  • Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer/Warzone: Using SMGs, get 3 kills immediately after sprinting in 15 different completed matches.
  • Black Ops Cold War Zombies: Using SMGs, kill 50 Special or Elite enemies while they are ensared in your Toxic Growth.

Best alternatives

The best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout is simply a machine. But if you want some serious range to go with it, then equip something meaty like the LW3 Tundra.

The PP19 Bizon and RAM-7 are also great options in Season 6, so it will be worth trying these options out if you are not feeling the best Warzone PPSH-41 loadout.

If you’re looking for more great weapons, then you can check out some of this season’s best Warzone loadouts below:
