Overwatch 2 has quite a few currencies and understanding what each of them are can be quite confusing. Luckily, we have explained each of them, including Overwatch 2 Legacy Credits.

Overwatch 2 has arrived as a free-to-play game, filled with all of the content you would expect to see in a live-service game, including a seasonal Battle Pass and plenty of cosmetics in the in-game store.

As we are currently in Overwatch 2 Season 1, many are still getting to grips with how everything works.

Not only are players learning the three new characters, Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko, but both new and returning players are trying to understand what the new currencies are and how they work.

In Overwatch 2, there are four currencies: Overwatch Coins, Legacy Credits, Competitive Points, and League Tokens. For those unaware of what they do, here’s our guide on how to get them and what each of them can purchase.

Overwatch Coins: How do you get currency in Overwatch 2?

Overwatch Coins are Overwatch 2’s main currency that are purchased with real money and earned for free through completing daily challenges. This currency can be used to purchase cosmetic items in the Store, as well as the seasonal Battle Pass.

Does Overwatch 2 have loot boxes?

Blizzard Entertainment have removed loot boxes in Overwatch 2 in favor for the Store. Any loot boxes that players had earned on the first Overwatch should have been automatically opened on the launch of Overwatch 2, so don’t be surprised if you have some new items you were unaware of in the Hero gallery.

What are Overwatch 2 Legacy Credits?

Overwatch 2’s Legacy Credits are the leftover Credits that players had earned on the original Overwatch. Since the first game’s servers have been discontinued, the devs decided to allow players to keep their Credits by carrying them over to OW2 through Legacy Credits.

These Legacy Credits can purchase skins and cosmetic items in the Hero Gallery that are from the original Overwatch. Unfortunately, for those without leftover Overwatch Credits, there is currently no way to gain Legacy Credits in Overwatch 2.

How do you get Overwatch 2 Competitive Points?

Competitive Points are earned through Overwatch 2’s Competitive mode, which sees players compete against others and work their way up the ranks. Players can complete challenges in this mode to also earn CP.

Competitive Points can be used to purchase a Hero’s Golden Weapon, which costs 3000 CP. This is quite a lot, so you’ll need to be grinding to earn enough to purchase one. Currently, that is all you can purchase with Competitive Points.

Make sure you check out our guide on Overwatch 2’s Competitive mode to get up to speed.

Overwatch League Tokens & how to earn them

Finally, we have Overwatch League Tokens, which can either be purchased with real money or can be earned by watching live Overwatch League matches. For every hour of OWL players watch, they’ll earn five League Tokens.

You don’t have to watch a full hour either, as your viewership is tracked continuously, meaning you can split up your watch time and still earn the credits so long as you have accumulated an hour.

You can use League Tokens in the Overwatch League section of the in-game store. Here you can purchase skins associated with each of the Overwatch League teams.
