What to expect in Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone

Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War will bring new content and a huge change to Call of Duty: Warzone.

Season 1 is fast approaching for Black Ops: Cold War and Warzone, due to release on December 10th, 2020.

This will be a huge update for both titles and finally bridge the two games together for player progression. It will also be the first time Warzone will transition from one Call of Duty to another, which will be a crucial moment in Activision’s plan to make Warzone a feature to accompany every future Call of Duty game.

Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming season.

Cross Progression

In a nutshell, cross-progression is coming to Modern Warfare, Warzone & Black Ops Cold War. No matter which Call of Duty experience you choose to play, you will still be ranking up weapons across Warzone and Cold War.

When the update drops on December 10th, expect some Black Ops Cold War weapons to be available in Warzone and the gunsmith for use. The new battle pass also has shared progression between the titles, so the weapons in Black Ops Cold War’s battle pass will also be in Warzone.

Level-up weapons and core progression level across multiple Call of Duty experiences come season one.

New Content

Coming to the game will also be brand new multiplayer maps, game modes, weapons, and a new warzone experience.

  • Maps – Currently, all we know is that Nuketown (pictured below) will be coming on November 24th. More maps will be dropping for multiplayer at Season 1’s launch.
  • Gamemodes – 2v2 gunfight will be making a return from Modern Warfare for its first appearance in the Black Ops universe. There will also be brand new zombie modes.
  • Classified Warzone Experience – It is rumored that this experience will be the return of the Alcatraz island blackout map, however, it will be Cold War/Soviet themed.
  • Additional game modes for core multiplayer.

Cosmetics Return

The Call of Duty store will be fully-functional with new bundles when Season 1 drops. Packs obtained from the store will have disclaimers on them, clearly stating if you can use your cosmetics in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

All unlockable items in the Battle Pass will be available for use in both games, however, the in-game store may be different in terms of game availability, depending on the pack you purchase.

Your COD points will carry between all games, but not across platforms. If you’re switching from console to PC, or from Xbox to PlayStation, remember to spend your COD points before you make the switch. They are platform-locked.

This update will be one of the largest ever brought to Call of Duty, with major changes across Warzone, Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War. All players, regardless of which game they prefer, will benefit from the new season.
