Season of the Chosen is quickly winding down, but it means that Destiny 2 players are getting closer to the return of Vault of Glass. Here’s its start date, details on World’s First, and more.
For many veteran Destiny players, Vault of Glass is going to hit them with a huge wave of nostalgia. Requiring a lowly Light Level of just 130, Vault of Glass was the first-ever Raid in the history of Destiny.
Now, nearly seven years after its debut, it returns to Destiny 2, remixed, and remastered to adjust to the ways in which the series has expanded. Bungie has said that Vault of Glass will launch with a typical World’s First race, and this is everything you need to know.
What is the World’s First race in Destiny?
A rare and prestigious event is always the World’s First race that comes with every single Raid in Destiny games. It’s the first official hours of a Raid’s launch in which fireteams all over the world compete to be the first team to beat it.

Clan Luminous took home the winner’s belts for winning the sacred race for Season of the Chosen’s Deep Stone Crypt. Vault of Glass will follow in its footsteps and have a full race to determine the first winners of the reimagined Raid in Destiny 2.
When does Destiny 2’s Vault of Glass Raid start?
Even though Destiny 2 Season 14 hasn’t officially been announced just yet, Bungie has kindly let players know when the Vault of Glass Raid will start so that they can be adequately prepared.
According to a Bungie news post, “Vault of Glass will go live on May 22 at 10 AM PDT.“
Here are the start times for other key zones:
- ET – 1pm
- CT – 12pm
- BST – 5pm
What rewards can I earn from the Vault of Glass Raid?
Players getting stuck straight into the harder version of the Raid, Contest Mode, when it launches will be competing for the Destiny 2 Vault of Glass championship belts that all winners receive for finishing first.
Bungie has also said, “We will have a full array of raid rewards and Bungie Rewards associated with Vault of Glass as well as an emblem available for completing it. We’ll cover all of the details on how to get them soon.”
What’s changed in Destiny’s Vault of Glass Raid?
This will be the first time in Destiny history that a Raid will be brand new, yet still feel like an old Raid. It’s been confirmed that Vault of Glass will be “the first race (outside of previous hard modes) where players have a broad understanding of what to expect while still encountering changes they’ll have to adapt to.”
Since the original Raid, Destiny has expanded and grown into a behemoth, adding in fearsome new weapons and incredible new abilities to use.
Bungie has also made note of specific changes that make this World’s First race different than previous ones:
- “Vault of Glass will launch with Contest Mode (explained here) enabled for 24 hours.
- You will need to be at 1300 Power to be at the cap for all of the encounters.
- Clearing Vault of Glass with Contest Mode active is the first step to access the new Challenge Mode in the Director and the Tempo’s Edge Triumph.
- Completing Tempo’s Edge, a curated list of Triumphs, in this newly unlocked Challenge Mode, will be how a fireteam crosses the World First finish line and claims their prize.
- To enforce the Triumph requirements in the Challenge Mode, your team will wipe if you fail the success conditions during each encounter.”

As with every other season of Destiny, players do not need to buy the full Battle Pass if they don’t want to as Bungie does make a few items free.
But if you want the Premium Pass, here’s how you can get your hands on it.
We expect the Season of the Splicer pass to remain the same as previous passes and cost 1,000 Silver. You can buy Silver from the Bungie store, along with the Pass itself.
Players that purchased the Digital Deluxe version of Beyond Light will already have access to the Season of the Splicer Pass, as well as Season 15 in the future.

If you would rather not burn a hole in your wallet to automatically unlock the Destiny 2 Cryosthesia 77k, you can level up the Season of the Splicer Season Pass and unlock this weapon when you reach Tier 35, as it is one of the free rewards players can earn in the Season of the Splicer Season Pass.
It all boils down to how soon you want to unlock this exotic sidearm, as purchasing the Season Pass will give it to you right away, while going the free route will make you wait and play a bit before it is added to your inventory.
According to the official description of the weapon from Bungie, it is a Stasis-powered sidearm with liquid cooling technology that is gifted to players from Mithrax as a token of friendship.
Mithrax is known as the Kell of the House of Light and is a Fallen Splicer who you must work with to stop the Vex from plunging humanity into eternal darkness during Season of the Splicer.

With Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer just around the corner, Bungie has plenty of new content planned for the coming update, including various balancing changes. So here’s a full overview of all weapon buffs and nerfs.
Bungie introduces new content in each season update for Destiny 2 so that the game feels fresh. These updates also bring some major balancing adjustments to many of the in-game weapons to improve the player experience.
Season of the Splicer is no exception, as the developers have many buffs and nerfs planned for the update when it goes live in just one week.
Here’s a complete rundown of all the balancing changes in the upcoming update for Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer.
Destiny 2 weapon archetype changes in Season of the Splicer
The new season will bring some major alterations to the Linear Fusion Rifles in Destiny 2. Their Precision damage and reserve ammo will receive a boost in the update.
There’s a small buff planned for Precision Auto Rifles, which will increase their overall damage per bullet, and Standard Fusion Rifles will be nerfed with a slightly bigger damage falloff distance when Season 14 goes live.
Precision (450 rpm) Auto Rifles:
- Increased Precision (450 rpm) Auto Rifle damage per bullet from 17 to 18.
- Added existing but unobtainable rare Linear Fusion Rifle and Breech Grenade Launchers to the World Loot Pool.
Linear Fusion Rifles:
- Increased precision damage by 15%
- Increased reserve ammo by 20%
- Increased damage falloff start distance for Fusion Rifles, no effect on 100 range stat, +2m on 0 range stat.
Weapon perks changes in Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer
Dragonfly is a fan-favorite perk in Destiny 2. It will receive a buff that ensures a more effective Unrelenting, along with a more powerful Sympathetic Arsenal in Season of the Splicer.
There is also a change planned for Subsistence which will keep reserve ammo from being reduced when using the perk. Additionally, SMGs will be given the same effects as Auto Rifles to boot.
- No longer reduces reserve ammunition.
- Submachine Guns now receive the same ammo fraction per takedown that Auto Rifles do (was 10%, like most weapons, now 17%, same as Auto Rifles).
- Now works on heavy shanks and servitors, and occurs even faster than after the Season of the Chosen fix.
High-Impact Reserves and Under Pressure:
- These are now active as long as their conditions are met.
- Now easier to trigger in PvE (immediate trigger on majors) and heals 20% more.
- Now grants +20 reload in addition to its primary effect.
- +1 degrees precision hip fire angle threshold, +1.2x reticle stickiness falloff distance.
- One degree doesn’t seem like that much, but for reference Hand Cannon aim assist cone angle is 2.5 degrees at 0 AA, to 3 degrees at 100 AA, and you can feel the difference between a 90 AA hand cannon and a 100 AA hand cannon (a 0.05-degree increase), so a small difference can be significant.
- Note that precision hip-fire angle caps at the aim down sights aim assist cone angle.
Iron Grip, Iron Gaze, Iron Reach:
- Reduced secondary stat penalty from -40 to -30.
Osmosis and Elemental Capacitor:
- Osmosis now switches the weapon to Stasis damage when playing a Stasis subclass – this should work for any mechanics that ask for Stasis damage (but not for Stasis ability damage). Also created stasis VFX for all weapon types that Osmosis can appear on (more coming later).
- Elemental Capacitor with a Stasis subclass grants +recoil direction and reduces ADS move speed penalty.
- Reduced trigger time from 1.5s to 1s and increased flinch reduction from 30% to 35%.
Celerity and Bottomless Grief:
- Celerity: Now always grants +20 to handling and +20 to reload in addition to the triggered effect.
- Bottomless Grief: Now always grants +30 to magazine in addition to the triggered effect.
Weapon mods changes in Destiny 2
Bungie also has a few weapon mod changes planned for Season of the Splicer. Adept Mag and Adept Targeting will come with lesser penalties, while Adept Counterbalance will receive recoil improvements in the new update.
Adept Mag, Adept Targeting:
- Reduced secondary stat penalty from -20 to -15.
- Fixed Adept Mag not granting reserves when applied to a Sword.
- Increased recoil direction benefit.
All Exotics changes in Season of the Splicer
Bungie also has a couple of changes planned for Destiny 2’s Exotics in Season of the Splicer, with the Hawkmoon receiving more Paracasual Charge priority and Paracausal Shot buff text. You can look at all the Exotics changes below:
- Changed the catalyst perk from Outlaw to No Distractions.
- Increased priority of Paracausal Charge and Paracausal Shot buff text
That covers all the buffs and nerfs that have been confirmed for Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer update. The developers will mainly focus on Fusion Rifles, Hand Cannons, and Shotguns.
