We’ve almost reached the end of Warzone and Black Ops Cold War Season 2, so when does Season 3 begin, and what does it have in store?
Ever since the integration of Black Ops Cold War into Warzone, we’ve seen a vast number of additions and changes to both games. The subsequent updates have allowed Verdansk to expand with Rebirth Island, and even incorporate Zombies into Warzone.
The Zombies invasion of Verdansk is about to reach a climax, and the highly-anticipated Season 3 of both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is set to begin.
Here’s everything you need to know about Warzone and Cold War Season 3, including the release date, new weapons, and Operators.
Warzone & Cold War Season 3 start date
We’re now reaching the climax of Warzone Season 2, with Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 2 set to begin on April 22.
This will follow the highly-anticipated nuke event which is set to destroy modern-day Verdansk, bringing a major overhaul to the map in Season 3.
Warzone’s update will begin on April 21 at 9 PM PT, ahead of Season 3’s launch.
When is CoD: Warzone Season 2’s nuke event?
Zombies have now overrun Verdansk and Radiation Zones have consumed all of the areas that became infected over the course of Season 2.
This is set to culminate in a season-ending event on April 21, in which players are advised to “evacuate immediately.” This event will be multi-part, with the final stage beginning at 12 PM PT on April 22.
Here are the start times for the event:
- 12 PM PT
- 3 PM ET
- 8 PM BST
- 5 AM AEST (April 22)
As the different stages of the event are completed, the next objectives players will have to complete will be revealed.
After Warzone’s event has concluded, Season 3 of Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will officially begin.
Cold War & Warzone Season 3 weapons
Six new weapons have been confirmed for the Cold War and Warzone Season 3. Three will arrive at launch on April 22, and the other three will release over the course of the season.
The new weapons are as follows:
The classic WW2 SMG, the PPSH-41, is making its debut in Cold War and Warzone Season 3’s free Battle Pass. Although having low damage per bullet, “its rapid-fire, high-capacity capabilities encourage an aggressive playstyle ideal for leading the charge in objective modes and clearing out tight spaces in Warzone.”
Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle
A brand new bolt action will also arrive in Season 3’s Battle Pass – the Swiss K31. This will feel familiar to fans of the Kar98k as it has “exceptional accuracy, as well as fast rechamber and aiming speeds.” Expect this to be the perfect weapon for quickscoping in both Cold War and Warzone.
Fans of the Black Ops series will be all-too-familiar with the power and fun of the Ballistic Knife. Doubling up as a “spring-action knife launcher” and a melee weapon, the Ballistic Knife is a fan favorite for Final Killcams and Play of the Game. This weapon won’t be in the Battle Pass, but will instead be released through a challenge yet to be revealed.
CARV.2, AMP63, and Baseball Bat
Three other weapons will release throughout Season 3. These are the CARV.2 Tactical Rifle, AMP63 SMG, and Baseball Bat Melee weapon. As with Season 2’s weapons, the E-Tool and ZRG 20mm, there will be challenges to unlock these new weapons when they release.
New Black Ops Cold War Season 3 maps
Maps often make or break a Call of Duty game, and Treyarch are adding four new maps to Cold War over the course of Season 3. There are three original maps, and the return of Black Ops 2’s Standoff, which is a favorite of competitive players and casual fans alike.
Yamantau and Diesel will debut at the start of Season 3 on April 22. While Yamantau is exclusively played on 6v6, Diesel will be available for 6v6, 2v2, and 3v3 modes.
Then, later in the Season, Standoff will arrive, following the additions of Raid and Express in Seasons 1 and 2. And for fans of the large-scale mode, Duga will arrive for the Multi-Team modes, including the new Multi-Team Elimination mini battle royale.
New Cold War and Warzone Season 3 Operators
On top of all these exciting new weapons and maps, there are four new Operators arriving in Season 3 that will be playable in both Cold War and Warzone.
At the launch of Season 3, Wraith will be available in the premium Battle Pass. This ex-Norwegian Intelligence Operator now working for Perseus will be available as soon as you purchase the Battle Pass, with a Legendary variant available at Tier 100.
Also, as a surprise treat for CoD fans, Captain Price will arrive in Cold War as a playable Operator. Called “Price ’84,” owners of Black Ops Cold War will get immediate free access to the fan-favorite Operator on April 22, and can take him into both Cold War multiplayer and Warzone.
Later in Season 3, Knight and Antonov will arrive, likely through Store Bundles. As the Season progresses, we’re likely to know more about these new Operators.
1980s revamp leaked for Warzone Season 3
We got a first look at what the next evolution of Verdansk will be in a celebrity commercial that was posted to Twitter. It showed the map getting a 1980s makeover with a specific focus on a few key areas.
Stadium, Dam, Airport, and the surrounding forestry were the highlighted locations in the video, along with some changes in Downtown. Later, another possible teaser was discovered in Verdansk’s Superstore in the form of a poster for the 1980s Moscow Summer Olympics.
We expect more teasers for Season 3 to pop up around Verdansk and Cold War’s multiplayer, and the ones that have been found make Warzone’s 1980s overhaul seem all the more likely.
We’re only hours away from Warzone and Cold War Season 3, and its shaping up to be the biggest content drop yet.

Best Swiss K31 loadout for CoD: Cold War Season 3
Black Ops Cold War Season 3’s new Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle is fast and powerful, so here are the best attachments and perks to run with it.
The Swiss K31 is Black Ops Cold War’s new, fast Sniper Rifle. It’s ideal for quickscoping, so here are the best attachments and perks to run with it in Season 3.
As with all new seasons of Call of Duty, there are new weapons for players to level up and use across Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. For Season 3, we’ve been treated to the Ballistic Knife, the classic PPSH-41, and the all-new Swiss K31 Sniper Rifle.
The Swiss K31 is designed to be fast. It has a rapid ADS time, as well as quick bolt time, and plenty of bullets in the mag to boot.
We’ve put together the best attachments and perks to run with the Swiss K31, which will make it perfect for quickscoping.
Best Swiss K31 loadout in Cold War Season 3
- Barrel: 24.9″ Tiger Team
- Body: Tiger Team Spotlight
- Stock: Raider Stock
- Magazine: 8 Rnd Mag
- Handle: Airborne Elastic Wrap
This Swiss K31 is built for quickscoping on Cold War’s smaller maps, but it also packs enough punch to hit some nice longshots.

To start, the 24.9″ Tiger Team barrel completely transforms the Swiss K31. It deals much more damage, so you’ll be able to kill full-health players in only one shot to the chest. To spot enemies at further ranges and in dark corners, the Tiger Team Spotlight will increase your Reveal Distance.
To vastly speed up your sprint to fire time and ADS speed, you should run the Raider Stock and Airborne Elastic Wrap. You’ll be able to scope in before the enemies can react, allowing for rapid quickscope kills.
And to give you a few more shots, you should run the 8 Rnd Mag. However, the Tiger Team barrel will reduce this mag size to six, which is still the perfect amount.
Best perks to run with the Swiss K31 in Cold War Season 3
We recommend running the Perk Greed Wildcard with the Swiss K31, as you’ll get to equip two perks in each slot.
- Perk 1: Flak Jacket & Tactical Mask
- Perk 2: Scavenger & Assassin
- Perk 3: Gung-Ho & Ghost
Lethal and Tactical Equipment will often be the death of you, so Flak Jacket and Tactical Mask will keep you alive no matter what the enemy throws at you.
There’s nothing worse than running out of ammo, so Scavenger will allow you to resupply ammo from dead bodies. And then, you can use the Assassin perk for some extra score when killing enemies on Scorestreaks.
And finally, Gung-Ho will increase your mobility further, letting you reload on the fly, as well as swap weapons faster. To pull off effective flanks, Ghost will keep you hidden from UAVs too.
How to unlock the Swiss K31 in Cold War Season 3
The Swiss K31 is simple to unlock – you simply need to hit Tier 31 in the Season 3 Battle Pass.
It’s also completely free. So play games of either multiplayer, Zombies, or Warzone, and follow our guide on ranking up the pass quickly.
Best alternatives to the Swiss K31 in Cold War
The Swiss K31 excels at quickscoping at close-medium range. If you haven’t unlocked it yet, Cold War provides some other snipers that will be well worth running in Season 3.

Best PPSH-41 loadout for CoD: Cold War Season 3
CoD’s electrifying new PPSH-41 SMG is here, and we’ve put together a complete loadout to help it excel in Cold War Season 3.
The meta in Black Ops Cold War has changed massively thanks to the introduction of the PPSH-41 SMG. Season 3’s devastating new gun has the potential to be the best gun in Cold War, so let’s make it so with the best attachments and perks.
The base version of the PPSH-41 is already a ferocious entity that can rip through a whole team in seconds. Once you start slapping on some awesome attachments and equipping the right perks, then your performance really will boil down to your skill.
Season 3 has already switched up the meta significantly by nerfing some of the game’s biggest assets such as the Streetsweeper, FFAR, M16, and AUG all being nerfed. This has paved the way for some new heroes.
Unlocking the PPSH-41 is easy enough, but use this loadout to truly master it.
Best PPSH-41 attachments for Cold War Season 3
It goes without saying that to replicate this loadout, you will need the Gunfighter Wildcard equipped to allow for 8 attachments.
- Optic: Microflex LED
- Muzzle: KGB Eliminator
- Barrel: 14.9″ Rifled
- Body: KGB Target Designator
- Underbarrel: Spetznaz Grip
- Mag: Fast Mag
- Handle: Speed Grip
- Stock: Raider Stock
For a clean sight, we want the Microflex LED optic, and we want an even bigger reduction in recoil with the KGB Eliminator.
We get a big range boost from the 14.9″ Rifled barrel at little cost to anything else, and the KGB Target Designator is keeping up the KGB theme because we like its Reveal Distance abilities.
The Spetsnaz Grip aids the transformation of the PPSH into a laser, whereas we’ve applied a Fast Mag because we feel the clip size is already generous.
We’ve gone for the trusty Speed Grip to boost ADS time and the Raider Stock to allow us more freedom to run around and still instantly snap onto an enemy.
Best perks to run with the PPSH-41 in Cold War Season 3
- Perk 1: Tactical Mask
- Perk 2: Assassin
- Perk 3: Gung-Ho
Lots of this class will involve running, so chances are you’re going to run into a pesky Gas Mine (or nine) so the Tactical Mask will make you immune to its irritating effects.
Regardless of your ability, you’re going to be scoring a few kills with this loadout, so Assassin will earn you some valuable points – make sure you have the right Scorestreaks equipped.
Gung-Ho allows for lots of running, reloading on the move, quick weapon switching, and is a necessity.
How to unlock the PPSH-41 in Cold War Season 3
It’s a free Tier, so play a few games and use the fastest ways to complete the Season 3 Battle Pass.
Best alternatives to Cold War’s PPSH-41
If you want an extra weapon to sit alongside the PPSH or if you are in need of a change, then we would recommend either the Krig 6 for more Assault Rifle firepower or the Gallo SA12 for a quick weapon to swap to and finish the enemy off.
That’s the PPSH sorted for Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer. But it also packs a serious punch in Warzone, so you can always check out our best PPSH-41 Warzone Season 3 loadout too.

How to unlock the LC10 SMG in Cold War & Warzone Season 3
Getting your hands on the LC10 in Cold War & Warzone Season 3 is easy, with challenges unlocking the weapon in multiplayer and Zombies.
The compact LC10 SMG is a shredding machine in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, and while it was part of the Season 2 Battle Pass, there are now new challenges to let you get your hands on it in Season 3.
If you didn’t manage to unlock it through the Season 2 Battle Pass, Treyarch has now added some new challenges to give you a second chance to grab it. Here’s everything you need to know to get your hands on the LC10.
Black Ops Cold War Season 3 LC10 challenges
The LC10 is a fully-automatic SMG that certainly packs a punch in the right hands. While it’s not the most powerful gun in its class, its high rate of fire and solid accuracy make it a menace on the map. The gun was so popular, that players were inclined to use it no matter if they were playing multiplayer or League Play.
With the Cold War Season 2 Battle Pass now finished, players will instead need to complete challenges to unlock the weapon. Thankfully, these challenges aren’t too difficult, with tasks for both normal multiplayer and Zombies.
The challenges are:
- Multiplayer / Warzone: Using SMGs, get 3 kills without dying in 15 different matches
- Zombies: Using SMGs, kill 250 enemies that are on fire.
Completing both of these challenges won’t be too difficult, although they may be time-consuming. 15 matches may sound like a lot, but hopping into a small-map playlist like Nuketown should make it fairly easy, with plenty of enemies around in a small space.
You’ll also be able to use any SMG you wish, so you can pick your current favorite and get to work unlocking the LC10. There are similar challenges to unlock the FARA 83 assault rifle, so don’t worry if you haven’t unlocked it yet either.
Once you’ve unlocked the powerful SMG, you can use our LC10 loadout guide to make sure you’ve got the right attachments to cut through opponents.
