Overwatch 2 is gearing up for Season 9 which will introduce major balance changes. If you want to enjoy the latest content with friends on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, here’s everything to know about crossplay and cross-progression in Overwatch 2.

Despite the several controversies surrounding it, crossplay has become a common feature in multiplayer titles nowadays. From shooters like Apex Legends and Fortnite to fast-paced action games like Rocket League to sports titles like EA Sports FC, most multiplayer games support the feature.

With features like aim assist on controllers, developers of prominent shooter games make sure that their title is balanced for users on different platforms. Although the players will most likely always be divided on the topic, crossplay ensures smooth and quick match-making.

Overwatch 2, like its predecessor, is massively popular across consoles and PC, and here’s everything to know about playing it across PC, Xbox & PlayStation through crossplay and cross-progression.

Does Overwatch 2 have crossplay?

Yes, Overwatch 2 added crossplay across PC and all supported consoles (PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox) in June 2022. However, you must merge your Battle.net account and console accounts to enable the feature.

Crossplay is a feature in multiplayer games that allows players to team up and play against each other regardless of the platform. For example, if you’re a PC player, crossplay allows you to form teams with players on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or other supported platforms.

Crossplay works differently in most games, and here’s what we know about its functionality in Overwatch 2.

Is Overwatch 2 Competitive crossplay?

No, Overwatch 2 Competitive doesn’t support crossplay, and for fairness, PC and console players are matched in different pools. However, if your group consists of PC and console players, you’ll be placed in the PC matchmaking pool which won’t provide console users with aim-assist so be careful. Moreover, there’s no way for PC players to enter the console pool in Competitive modes.

How to use Overwatch 2 crossplay

Crossplay in Overwatch 2 is enabled automatically for PC players and console players can access the feature after linking their Battle.net and console accounts.

How to add friends

Here’s how to add friends in Overwatch 2:

  1. Launch the game and open the Social menu from the main screen.
  2. Select Add a Friend.
  3. Enter your friend’s Battle.net account name or e-mail address and send a request.
  4. Wait for the person to accept the friend request and you should appear on each other’s friends list that is accessible through the same social menu.
  5. Another way is to go to the recent tab of the Social menu where you’ll find players you recently played with and competed against.

Does Overwatch 2 have cross-platform progression?

Yes, you can enjoy cross-progression in Overwatch 2 through your Battle.net account which stores your skins, points, and achievements. Linking your PlayStation or Xbox accounts to your Battle.net account should help you save your progress across all platforms.

On Xbox and PlayStation, your in-game wallet and currencies are transferred as well and you can use them to purchase skins or other times.

On the Nintendo Switch, however, you can only use the currency you’ve purchased on the console, including any Overwatch League tokens. Anything you earn in-game though, can be used on other platforms.

Stats on Overwatch 2 accounts with cross-progression

Your gameplay stats and skill ratings in Overwatch 2 are displayed and tracked differently based on input to track the difference between playing with a keyboard and mouse and a controller.

For individual stats like kill streaks, accuracy, solo kills, and endorsements, the best value among all platforms is selected and displayed.

Follow these steps to enable cross-progression in Overwatch 2 on Xbox and PlayStation:

  1. Ensure that your Battle.net account isn’t a trial version. Complete registration, if it is.
  2. Open Battle.net launcher.
  3. Open your account settings by clicking on your name from the top right corner and selecting Account Settings or click the Battle.net logo on the top left corner and choose Accounts.
  4. Select Connections. A list of platforms that you can connect your Battle.net account to should appear.
  5. Follow the directions to connect your Battle.net account to Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo.

Do note that Blizzard has imposed a cooldown on account linking, so make sure you’re connecting the relevant accounts or you might have to wait a whole year to do it again.

Also, your Battle.net account can be linked to only one Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch account. Similarly, your console won’t link to multiple Battle.net accounts simultaneously.
