How to fix Black Ops Cold War ‘Blackout Trial Ended’ Xbox bug

How to fix the Blackout Trial Has Ended error in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One platforms.

An update to Call of Duty: Warzone on January 6 has reportedly brought back a bug that stops Xbox players from playing Black Ops Cold War. Here’s how to fix the problem.

The newest update for Call of Duty: Warzone went live on January 6 across all platforms, but some Xbox players are unable to play Black Ops Cold War following it. This update nerfed overpowered BOCW weapons in Warzone but has reportedly brought back December’s “Blackout Trial Has Ended” error.

After the update had been installed in December, when loading the game, there’s an error message popping up saying that the Free Trial has ended and you need to buy the game to continue.

The message goes to call the game a “Blackout Trial” has “ended”. And they have to buy the full game to get “Blackout, Multiplayer, and Zombies.” Blackout references are of course left over code from Black Ops 4 that appears to have made its way into the Black Ops Cold war game code.

Of course, all these users already own the full game and are now temporarily locked out from playing the game.

How to fix ‘Trial Has Ended’ Xbox bug

Treyarch issued a fix for the error in December, but the latest patch has saw it return.

Follow these steps to fix the issue yourself:

  1. Go to “Manage Game & Add-Ons”
  2. Select “Black Ops Cold War”
  3. Check to see the Installed items for Black Ops Cold War
  4. Ensure all items listed there are checked and installed
  5. Restart your game

Treyarch are continuing to monitor the problem, so we can expect another fix in the near future.

Treyarch devs give update on return & behavior of Cold War Blueprint Mods

An update has been provided on the status of CoD: Cold War’s Blueprints as a Treyarch dev addressed their return and how they work.

One of Treyarch’s devs has confirmed that Custom Blueprints will be savable soon and explained that players are able to select attachments that they haven’t officially unlocked.

Modern Warfare & Warzone debuted a hugely useful feature that allowed players to save the attachments they’d used for a weapon as a Custom Blueprint. It could then be applied to any applicable weapon and be a real time-saver.

Treyarch finally welcomed it into Cold War, but it got off to a rocky start as a problem was found with the system, and Treyarch has had to disable it for maintenance. It’s now back online, and players can mix and match attachments, but can’t save them as a Blueprint to use across all weapons.

One of Treyarch’s devs has reassured CoD players regarding its absence, and also answered a common question regarding the nature of Cold War’s Custom Blueprint system.

On April 9, Treyarch Tweeted out about the Custom Blueprint system going live in Cold War saying, “Mix and match attachments from Blueprints of the same weapon type to create your own custom Blueprints.”

It was taken down on the same day, before normal service was resumed 24hrs later.

With regards to saving Custom Mods, a post on the Black Ops Cold War subreddit looked to discuss this matter, with Treyarch dev Josh “FoxhoundFPS” Torres even providing an update.

He said, “Glad you were able to discuss this with Activision Support. This is intended functionality and will allow for Custom Blueprint Mods once we reactivate. Mixing and matching are encouraged where applicable.”

So it will be live again sometime soon, Treyarch just clearly needs time to make sure the process is working properly before reactivating it.

Gunsmith Customs allows locked attachments?

The original topic for discussion actually concerns how the game makes use of locked attachments for weapons.

Reddit user les-miserable-man said, “Correct me if I’m wrong, but you can now equip attachments that you haven’t unlocked yet. To test this, I purchased the “Entrenched” bundle from the store that included the “KGB Skeletal Stock” attachment for the AK-47. I can now equip this attachment to my base AK (not the Blueprint it came with from the store) even though I have not unlocked the base attachment?”

The user updated their own post saying that they had spoken to Activision confirming that “this is intended behavior.”

So if one of your weapons is Level 10, and you buy a bundle containing a Blueprint with a Level 40 attachment, you’ll be able to use that attachment now using the Gunsmith.

You should at least have time to find what works for you before Season 3 starts, and you can try and unlock more attachments anyway with the scheduled Double XP event to conclude Season 2.

How to change your username in Call of Duty: Warzone & Cold War

Ever wanted to change your Activision ID? Here’s how to change your username for free in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

How to change username in cold war & warzone

Activision lets you change your Call of Duty username free of charge, so here’s how to set a new display name in Warzone and Black Ops Cold War.

Changing your display name on PlayStation and Xbox can sometimes be costly, but in Call of Duty, you can change your name as many times as you like. This will only affect your CoD name, so you can keep your Gamertag or PlayStation ID for other games.

Your Activision ID will be your username followed by a hash mark (#) and a series of numbers. This means you can set your name to be whatever you like without having to worry if the name is already taken.

Activision also allows you to change your username for free. You’ll get a new name change ticket every six months but you can only carry two at a time.

Here’s how to change your username in Warzone and Black Ops Cold War.

How to change your Call of Duty username

If you’d like to change your Call of Duty username for Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Black Ops Cold War, here’s how to do it.

To change your Call of Duty username in-game:

  1. Launch Call of Duty: Warzone or Black Ops Cold War
  2. Press ‘Options’ on the home screen
  3. Navigate over to ‘Account’
  4. Select ‘Activision Account’
  5. Hit ‘Change Display Name’
  6. Enter your new username and hit ‘Confirm’

You can also change your Call of Duty username online, so here’s how:

  1. Sign in to your Activision Account
  2. Hover over your username in the top right corner
  3. Click on ‘Basic Info’
  4. Select ‘Edit’ beside your Activision ID
  5. Type in your new username
  6. Hit ‘Save’

How to report offensive Call of Duty usernames

Warzone report player screen

While Activision automatically blocks offensive usernames, players can sometimes get past this by using special characters or abbreviations. If you spot an offensive username in-game, Activision lets you report them.

To report a players username or Clan Tag:

  1. Press ‘Y’ on Xbox or ‘△’ PlayStation to open the Social tab / select the Social tab on PC
  2. Select ‘Recent Players’
  3. Highlight the player you wish to report and select them
  4. Hit ‘Report Player’
  5. Select either ‘Report Username’ or ‘Report Clan Tag’

With hackers still running rampant in Warzone, you can also report cheaters through this same method.

That’s everything you need to know about changing your Call of Duty username – you’ll only get a new ticket every six months so choose your name wisely!
