Following a release update shared by devs, XDefiant players fear the game’s release overlapping with Activision’s MW3 beta may “kill the vibes” right at launch.

The rivalry between first-person shooters has always been a thing, since Call of Duty launched its first game, other popular franchises like Halo or Battlefield would always compete against the third best-selling franchise in the world.

Since its announcement, XDefiant has been a breath of fresh air for many FPS players. Ubisoft’s free-to-play title was presented as the players’ game, where their feedback would be key to innovating and adding features, all while maintaining the core of an arcade game.

But after the latest update about the game’s release, which players are eagerly awaiting, fear has arisen due to the possibility of coinciding with Modern Warfare 3‘s beta, Activision’s 2023 premium title.

Players worry MW3 beta could overshadow XDefiant release

On September 11, Mark Rubin, XDefiant‘s Executive Producer, shared a vast update addressing the community providing a release date update that made players worry as the dates would coincide with MW3’s beta, overshadowing the highly expected launch of the game.

In the update, Rubin revealed that they’re resubmitting the game in order to release it on first-party platforms. Depending on the outcome of this process, the game might launch sometime between mid-to-late September and early-to-mid October.

Simultaneously, it’s worth noting that Activision’s Modern Warfare 3 beta will also be available to players across various platforms during this timeframe, which could lead to both titles competing.

Below Dexerto’s CoD reporter Jacob Hale X’s (formerly Twitter) post, players expressed their concerns regarding the game’s clash with the MW3 beta. “They should’ve released it long ago lmao, Once MW3 drops it’s over for them they took too long,” remarked one user.

CoD content creator RaidAway commented, “I know they said they aren’t a competitor to Call of Duty, but naturally they are. May kill the vibes off the start idk,” in response to Warzone’s Swagg post, where he expressed that launching the game concurrently is “not smart on their part.”

The XDefiant team is aware that comparisons with CoD will persist, mainly because players are eager for something new following recent issues with the Call of Duty franchise.

It’s merely a matter of time before we learn more about the game’s future and how it will control the competitive release schedules alongside its rival.
